RETIREES CELEBRATE MAY MONTH OF CARING WITH GRAYSON VIEW RESIDENTS
Snyder County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees visited Grayson View Assisted Living Center to celebrated May Month of Caring with several retired teachers and other residents of the center. The members held a sing along with the residents and served tea, coffee and cookies for refreshments. Everyone enjoyed singing some “oldies but goodies” including Tea for Two, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and God Bless America. The association members shared homemade cookies and especially enjoyed visiting with the residents.




2008 LAURETTA WOODSON AWARDS GIVEN TO MIDD-WEST EMPLOYEES

Each year the Snyder County Public School Retirees Association gives the Lauretta Woodson Award to an educator and a support staff employee. The honorees for 2008 are from the Midd-West School District. Thomas Burns, instrumental music teacher at Midd-West High School and Donald Fogle, custodian at Perry-West Perry Elementary School are the recipients of the awards. Tom Wagner, Educational Support Chairperson of the Snyder County PASR made the presentation to each of the awardees.

Mr. Burns was commended for being a good friend to the band students. He was always willing to go the extra mile to help them learn their music. His students especially appreciate his honesty. He always made the band concerts fun. Mr. Burns has inspired many students in his time as band director formerly at West Snyder High School and currently at Midd-West High School. He is retiring after 35 years of teaching.

Mr. Fogle is highly thought of for his excellent work ethic. He is a willing employee who strives for perfection in maintaining the Perry-West Perry Elementary School. He takes pride in his duties and always has a helping hand for teachers or students who need his help.

Lauretta Woodson was a graduate of West Chester Teachers College in English. She secured a Masters from Columbia and a PhD. from Temple University. She taught in the public schools in Eddystone School District before she went on to become an assistant professor at Temple University. Ms. Woodson retired in 1984 and created a trust to recognize one teacher and one support personnel employee each year throughout Pennsylvania school districts. This award recognizes an educator and support staff member who exhibit creativity, initiative or productivity relevant to the learning process and growth of children.
